While the Mr. is away I get to eat all the stuff that I want to eat!

I also get to stay at work as late as I want. Since Joe’s staying with us now, the animals have company (and trash gets pushed out!).

Last night, we went out to dinner to Kazoo for some sushi. The Mister doesn’t like Kazoo. But I DO!

We order a chawanmushi. I love chawanmushi!

After much discussion, Joe and I decided to make some just for fun for dinner.

Here’s the recipe I used.

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups cooled soup stock [chicken stock + fish-based stock (powdered or liquid form acceptable) + dash of sake and soy sauce]
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of soy sauce
  • 4 slices of gu
    • Chicken
    • Bamboo shoot
    • Shrimp
    • Spanich

Directions

  1. Gently beat the eggs using a fork or chopsticks, not an eggbeater.
  2. Add salt and soy sauce to the stock
  3. Add soup stock mixture a little at a time while you stir the eggs. It can be lukewarm but not hot.
  4. Place a slice of the gu in each cup, and pour in the mixture of egg and soup stock.
  5. Place a cilantro leaf on top.
  6. Boil water in a steamer, and turn the heat down to medium.
  7. Place the cups in the steamer, and steam for approximately 12 minutes.

I cooked for 20 min instead of 12, because it was still a bit runny after 12 minutes. It could be because the cups I used were a bit bigger.

Anyway, it was tasty. Here are some pictures I took with the camera phone. (The Mr took the nice camera with him to Ireland… So these will have to do)

in the steamer!

Ready to eat!

ABC was having a marathon of The Cutting Edge Trilogy today.

Good thing the Mister is in Ireland, or he might be drinking heavily by now. (He might still be drinking heavily now but probably for happier reasons.)

I remember going to watch The Cutting Edge Episode I by myself because no one wanted to go with me. I was still living on campus, so I had to take a bus to downtown and to the worse theater in town. (The theater now has been torn down.) There were like at most 10 people in the theater.

Ladies, I know you all wanted to cry when Doug told Kate he loved her, end up doing the Pamchenko at the end of the movie and won the gold! It’s one of those movie I try to catch whenever it comes on TV.

Then I discovered The Cutting Edge Episode II. I had to get it on Netflix. It was basically the same movie without the Pamchenko, oh and the guy was a inline skater instead of a ice hockey player. She was mean to him, etc etc.

As I was watching TV today, I saw that there was a marathon of the movie, and debute of The Cutting Edge Episode III! I couldn’t resist.

I didn’t have high hopes for Episode III since Episode II was not the best.

The verdict? It was ok.

It had a better twist than Episode II! (Stop reading now if you have not seen the movie.)

Instead of girl skater looking for boy skater, it was the other way around. And this time it was a girl hockey player! And they did the Pamchenko.

Episdoe III story line is closer to the first one without the witty lines. The main guy tried to be moody and brood but couldn’t really pull it off. He is just not angsty enough, not like Kate angsty.

The evil ex-coach plot line was also sort of similar like the first movie, but not as good.By far, the first movie was the best.

If I could get my 6 hours back again from the marathon I would definitely skip Episode II and go directly to III.

I have been sending photo back to myself from my blackberry. I would only get acknowledgments of delivery email, but never the images! Finally, I realized that they were going to the junk mail. Mystery solved.

Anyway, few Wednesday ago, we had a little birthday celebration at work. (We have one once a month, very nice really.)

As a surprise, someone from the biz team brought us an ice cream truck! It’s pretty cool, it play ice cream truck music and everything.

The ice cream man was super cool. Didn’t get a chance to take his photo, but got 2 of the truck.

I never worked in a place where the ice cream truck comes for a personal delivery of free ice cream! It brightened everyone’s day up.

Double Decker Bus

Another late night on a Saturday!

After a long term boyfriend broke up with me, I was pretty depressed. It turned out to be a good decision, but at the time, it was pretty heart breaking.

My friend Tad suggested that I should listen to the Smith to just get all depressed. He told me about this song about how this guy wanted to get hit by a double decker bus with his girlfriend. It’s a very sad song, but when I think of that song I smile, because at my deepest despair Tad can always make me laugh.

It’s one of those songs that you remember lyris of because it’s so unusual, but always have a hard time to remember the title of the song.

Anyways, years later Tad, Janet (his wife), Peter, and I went to see Morrissey live in concert. I thought it would be all depressing and all but, Morissey is actually kind of a upbeat guy. He was telling jokes and he can really really sing.

If you are every looking for the lyrics to the double decker bus song, here it is!

The Smiths – there is a light that never goes out

Take me out tonight
Where there’s music and there’s people
And they’re young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one
Anymore

Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don’t drop me home
Because it’s not my home, it’s their
Home, and I’m welcome no more

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought: Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn’t ask)

Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one, da …
Oh, I haven’t got one

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine

Oh, There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
